The focusing given by Dubai Municipality to the architectural heritage of Dubai was not a sudden, but it is a true expression of its conviction that the heritage of the community is their civilization, title is an introduction to the future. However, the challenges to conserve this heritage have been great from the rapid urban development, to the modernization that has taken place in the Emirate of Dubai in the cultural significance of the historical buildings, and those pioneering efforts of the citizens of Dubai, in the past, scientifically and culturally. The efforts to record, document and identify the urban and architectural heritage were a natural expansion of our concern for our citizens, to lead them towards a better understanding of their past, their heritage, and their future. The initiative taken by Dubai Municipality in the establishment of the Historical Buildings Section was the first step in the conservation of the heritage of the Emirate, and the recommendation, with the scientific and cultural studies, which serves as guide-lines to be followed by the Municipality. The following pages spot lights on an important area in the glorious history of the Emirate of Dubai, and on those fruitful efforts that seeks to conserve, restore and preserve our architectural and urban heritage.
